Friends

I was thinking of my long list of friendships over the years and realised how temporary it is.
I can think back to at least 3 ''best'' friends I have had and who have now been reduced to just friends or even worse... acquaintances.
Its so sad that it really makes me wanna cry sometimes, i mean you get so close to someone, or you think your close to them, and then the great test comes along... distance. Its like you spend years building it up and then the great challenge comes along and years work is destroyed in weeks.
It is positively disheartening.
Another aspect of it is: sharing.
I have heard a relationship between two people i know called: ''hi-bye friends who know a lot about each other''
I occasionally wonder if nearly all my friendships have been that, and i guess that fact that so many have drifted away just proves it.
I guess throughout our whole life we are lucky if we get even one friendship that carries over to adulthood, if you have that consider yourself blessed, and blessed mightily.
I am talking about the kind of friendship that needs no addition, a friendship that is as complete as necessary and that everything added only makes it better. It has been build, it has been constructed on solid rock and all addition does it make it more beautiful. The kind of friendship where silence is enough and each others company plenty. In other words the rarest kind.
I sometimes wonder if i will ever have one of these, but I think that maybe I am on the way to one, I have found a friend who i feel i can confide in and who I can talk to about everything and nothing. But even then i feel as if i can see the goal on the horizon, the goal being a true friendship build on sapphire fiber (is that correct? or would the tensile strength not be applicable to that).
But sometimes i despair, I look at my friendships, and i think what do i really know about ''so-and-so,'' what do i understand about his inner being, how can me being his friend help him, and how can I better his life. Do I really understand him, do I know how he thinks? Now this might be a bit much, but all the situations i have mentioned above all relate to only very close friends, i realise that with not so close friends all this is not necessary.
I dont see the point of making ''best friends'' or ''close friends'' if you do not have at least one of these goals in your mind, then you are not striving for the best that relationship can offer, you are not reaching for the top, you are just happy with whatever the name and title of 'best friend' brings.
This is ok for those of you who desire nothing more, but for those who desire more, heed my advice. A true friendship can provide you with help, support, fun, a shoulder to cry on, memories, love (in the proper context), a deeper understanding of humanity, and a chance to exercise the qualities that separate human beings from the animals.
Ill end with this quote
''Its the friends you can call up at four a.m. that matter.''
Marlene Dietrich

Anyway I have rambled on for long enough,

Church Drama

Hey guys, today I am gonna talk about my church drama, its called Indescribable and is on the 21st and 22nd of this month.
Now enough advertising for my church lol.
Sean and I are both involved in the drama and were asked to take the roles of....erm..he hem...trees..........
NOW STOP! i know what your thinking, your sitting there smirking and imagining me standing right at the back of the stage covered in a dorky green suit with branches sticking out of me.
That is totally INCORRECT.
I will probably wear greenish clothes and yes i will have branches BUT, we are trees are not background, we are a very very important part of the production, no matter what Justin Liew thinks.
We trees (me, sean, jun hao, and jolene??(sorry not sure spelling)) are involved in the segment which deals with creation, we come on stage with water, flowers (:P), and something else i cant remember lol.
We have a synchronised dance as well as a ''free style'' kind of thing.
Our section dances to the song ''God of Wonders,'' first of this is a FANTABULOUS song, really cool and if your a christian it really is beautiful. Anyway during the choruses we perform our synchronised ''tree'' dance, although it isnt very 'treeish.' Then during the verses we just dance like we think a tree would, its free style so u can do what you want as long as you think a tree would do that, so that means you cant dance like shakira (dam lol)
Anyway it really is a cool play and i wouls suggest that everyone here come, it is free of change and EVERYONE is welcome, even if your a homeless bum who has no life (sam haha).

Date: 21 & 22 December 2007
Time: 8.30pm
Venue: Maranatha Auditorium, Glad Tidings AOG, No 6 Jalan Bersatu 13/4, Petaling Jaya
For further enquiries, please call 03-7958 2777
or

http://www.gtpj.com/

Please come, you get to spend a night with me and sean lol, is that enticement enough haha. (Gays no need pay attention to that, im straight)
But seriously everyone come, if your christian you should, and if your not you REALLY should.

Braces

Hmm today was an interesting day...
I GOT BRACES.
I thought it might be cool and all to have them, i kinda kept imagining it like it was the music video 'Grillz', you know, Hot girls strutting around, diamond braces, rubies and topazs all in their with your teeth.
Sadly it was basically an already married dentist, stainless steel braces, and no adoring fans.
Did i mention lots of pain??
One of the worst things is that i cant eat in public properly,
I start chewing... then i have to stick my finger in my mouth to dislodge food caught in the wire, the i continue chewing until i have to swallow. As my jaw is painful i have to suck all the saliva and swallow. It makes a noise like ''SHLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL'' and can put people of their food if im not careful.
So far it hasnt been fun, but i wait out in the hope that there will be some Hot girls around soon and maybe just maybe, my dentist will give me diamond braces next time. One is allowed to hope after all.

Love, like and life

Today when i was out an incident happened where someone said out loud how much he loved someone else.
Now the incident was pretty funny and all but it just got me thinking about the concept
All around the world couples say to each other ''I love you'', it could be one of the most popular phrases ever, hell even ive said it.
Now lets talk about cliches, the definition of a cliche is '' A trite or overused expression or idea''
Now im NOT saying that ''I love you'' is an overused expression, because in the right circumstances ''i love you'' can mean so much and can express an entire ocean of feeling that could never be fully expressed in a physical way.
BUT i think that saying ''i love you'' like it is said so often today IS a cliche.
You know what i mean, nowadays in almost every relationship, even the ones you have when you are 12 or 11 you say to your bf or gf, i love you.
I mean my sister who is 12 had a bf or something and i heard plenty of i love you's.
Now are you going to tell me that a girl/boy at that age has the maturity to understand the complexity and the sacrifice necessary to love someone other than possibly their parents, NO.
They have been around their parents since they have been born so thats ok.
I just feel that the meaning of the phrase has been downgraded to represent even simple feelings like infatuation or desire, or physical attraction, or ''like''
I feel that replacing those words with love is totally misleading and wrong.
I mean i dont think someone who is so young can have the maturity necessary to represent the full meaning of the word love, a word that carries vast undertones and subtleties.
I mean you LOVE your parents, and most people would do almost ANYTHING for your parents, to the extent of suffering physical harm, and most parents LOVE their kids to the extent that they would die for them. Or Gods LOVE for us, where he came and Died for us, or where Christians who really LOVE God would Die for Him.
Now that is LOVE.
I dont think saying i love you and being willing to buy stuff for the person, or maybe stand up for them, or sleep with them, or share affection with them is enough, i dont think its a right application of such a strong powerful word.
Now there are acceptions to every rule and there are some young couple who do truly understand the power of the word i hope (u know who im talking about waltrezac).
Anyway i gotta go now, so i just hope this can help u all understand a different frame of mind.

My day

Hmm today started out kinda boring, i woke up at like 11 i think, then went down and was about to eat breakfast when my mom comes in and goes
''Oh your awake lewis, i thought it would be a great idea if you baked a cake today, heres the recipe''
Then she left.
I was like...... but what the hey so i did the baking thing and made a ''Pineapple and Peach upside down cake''
Anyways after i was done i had breakfast and went downstairs to get on the comp when my dad says
''Ok lewis i want you to come watch your bro play chess at his tournament''
I was like sure i got nothing else to do so i went upstairs to get dressed.
Then sunil sms's me when im in the shower and asks if im going out to 1u with every1 and i said that i had no idea wat he was talking about. At that point i was like dam i havent been invited, and now sunil is gonna get screwed cause he told me about it.
But it turns out that the arranging was messed up or something and i was actually invited *whew* lol.
So i tell my dad cant make it to the chess and will go the next day, and then jump into a cab and go to 1u.
The cab driver totally ripped me off, must of thought i was some ''new-to-Malaysia-super-rich-ass-white-boy-who-thinks-RM100- is-small-change. ''
Sadly I'm not that rich and i realized he was taking me for an extra long ride (i live in bangsar and he took me all around mega mall, then back towards my house then all the way back to 1u) but it wasn't to bad cause he was fun to talk to.
Anyway got to 1u and met up with everyone at a karaoke lounge, now i was really scared cause as u proabably know i cant sing to save my life, i dont know if i have EVER been IN tune. So i was like:
great an oppurtunity to be the laughing stock.
But it was actually really cool and fun, and sung some really nice songs.
Anyway after that we went to see hitman (WOOT!!!)
As u can guess it was FREAKING AWESOME
But im ahead of myself. There were like 15 of us and we were afraid they would check ic, so me and julian decided that since i was the tallest (apart from edwin) and he looked the oldest we would go in together, then jocelyn came with us, that helped to cause i think the guys thought she was the girlfren of one of us haha.
Anyway we got in :), and met up with joy and shana who got in earlier too.
Then me andrew, deepan, julian chin, and joy and shana went straight into the theater while EVERYONE else went to the bathroom. As they went in a manager saw them all and when they came out he asked them all for ic....so none of them got to see Hitman. Luckily for us we were already in the theater so were safe haha.
Anyway then we went to carl jrs to eat and we played truth or dare.
Needless to say i learnt and SAW some pretty cool things [jocelyn ;)]
After that i went home and am not blogging.
Thats the story of today so ya gonna go now

Some thoughts

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, and during our conversation i was asking a lot of questions (as always) and he was like:
''Lewis your always asking questions''
Now it may seem like a boring statement, but for me it really hit home. Ever since i was a kid i have always been inquisitive... i used to be called Mr. Why.
But as he said that it triggered a chain reaction in my mind and i realised that over the past week i had been told that same thing at least a dozen times.
Now if your told something that many times in one week its probably factual or at least seems to be factual.
So i sat there on my own and was wondering, is being curious a really bad thing?
Now i dont mean in the way like asking someone ''Are you a virgin'', or ''Do you masturbate'' (i have been asked that before :( )
I mean in the sense that you are curious for the reason for things, when someone asks you to do push ups, instead of saying ''How many?'' you say ''Why?''
Now some people i know would consider this a blatant refusal to obey and therefore bad, or as i have been told ''A stupid question'', but i dont believe any question if asked with the right motives can be considered wrong.
When you ask for the reason behind something you are not disobeying, or fighting againsts someones authority, you are merely asking for the reason y u have to do something which u had no intention to do in the first place. Is it so bad to want to have a reason to do something.
Even in religion the 'Why Syndrome' exists but in a different way. When God asks something of you, you may not say why but thats because the circumstances are different, if you believe in God then you realize that he is a all knowing all seeing being and he knows wat hes doing so no worries.
I guess this whole post will be easily traced to my own behavior by people who know me, i am a person who is very why orientated, this does not mean i dont like to work, or i dont like to obey. TOTALLY untrue, the fact is that i like to know why, therefore i am in full sync, body and mind united together for one purpose which i understand and can relate to, this is far more effective than a body doing something and the mind complaining about how boring this is and how it would rather be playing Halo 3 or basketball.
As i end this rambling post, i would like to say that to all you people out there who feel afraid to ask why, afraid to question, i say never fear that for if a world stops questioning a world stops growing.
